NHS Food Project 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic & lobbckdown have left many in the community vulnerable and isolated. Supporting Humanity mobilised a community by bringing together local businesses and residents. Our vision has helped our community to overcome difficulties by providing essential resources to those most vulnerable.

We started in Ilford & Newham but soon expanded to Essex & central London due to the huge need, interest and willingness of local businesses, public and volunteers to contribute more. Resulted in over 1500 hot meals being delivered every day across 16 boroughs in London & Essex. A total of 94,000 meals.

The project involved 14 hospitals including London Nightingale, Croydon, Royal London, Newham General, Queen’s & King George’s in Romford, Guy’s & St Thomas’s, hospices, ambulance stations and 150 households supplied with 375 meals.

Over 150 volunteers contributed to the success of the project, helping from food supply, ingredient preparation, cooking meals, packing, labelling to delivering across London & Essex.

By organising a hot food delivery service for elderly residents and frontline NHS workers we have helped those who have been impacted the hardest by COVID. This was Important in maintaining the wellbeing of the elderly and the functioning of NHS services in this very difficult time.
